Grantley Adams International Airport is approximately 30 mins away.  It is not necessary to rent a car as everything is on your doorstep. When booking the apartment it can be arranged for you to be collected from the air port your driver will take you where ever you need to go and is at hand to give you any advice or help.  However it is always interesting to explore the island with a car. This will allow you to see a glimpse of the east and north coast, which has spectacular scenery of the Atlantic.
